Northfield-based Project Prom in need of dresses, accessories

NORTHFIELD — Project Prom, a non-profit initiative dedicated to empowering young ladies in Atlantic County, is gearing up for its annual pop-up shop event from March 9-11 at Kensington Furniture, 200 Tilton Road in Northfield.

For a decade now, Project Prom has been a beacon of hope for local girls facing financial constraints by providing them with complimentary prom dresses, jewelry, shoes and accessories.

It’s more than just a dress — it’s a symbol of empowerment and confidence,” chairwoman and co-founder Rene Kane said.

The non-profit is seeking gently used prom dresses, especially large sizes, and accessories. Donations will be accepted through Feb. 24 at the following locations: Berkshire Hathaway, 9218 Ventnor Ave., Margate; Jewish Community Center, 501 N. Jerome Ave., Margate; and Esthetica, 1205 Tilton Road, Northfield.

Project Prom is partnering with the Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City (ACBGC) to showcase programming at the club that empowers young women and share resources with the teens who will be shopping for gowns.

The ACBGC will be at the event with information on programs such as SMART Girls, which includes dynamic sessions, field trips and mentoring to help girls build skills for eating right, staying physically fit, getting good health care and developing positive relationships.

Project Prom is made possible through the support of the community, dedicated volunteers and valuable partners.

The Boys & Girls Club volunteers are instrumental in executing the event, while radio station SOJO 104.9 adds rhythm and spirit with music and entertainment.

Rene Kane & Co. contributes essential promotional materials, and Kensington Furniture Store hosts the event, providing an elegant setting with 12 personalized fitting rooms.
