LOIS ANNE CHRISTY, 88

Lois Anne (Schoenewald) Christy, 88, of Cape May Court House and Ocean City, peacefully ascended, accompanied by angels, into heaven on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23, 2023, to join the love of her life, Captain Jack Christy (deceased 2016). Lois and Jack had been married 29 wonderful years.

Born in Philadelphia and a graduate of Lincoln High School 1953 class, Lois also attended Atlantic Community College.

Lois was a lifelong Democrat and was outspoken on many issues that appealed to her like of animal rescue shelters and volunteer fire departments.

Many animals will mourn her in their own way, including Phillie, her dog named after her beloved Philadelphia Phillies. Phillie was followed by Bobby Brown, Jessie, Annie, Manny, GiGi, Suzy Q, Bernice and, last but not least, little Gentleman Joe and Bella.

Lois began her career with Prudential in Linwood but eventually became an officer with the Ocean City Police Department Parking Authority.

After moving to Rhode Island, Lois worked for South County Hospital for 23 years. Upon Jack’s death in 2016, she returned to New Jersey and Cape May Court House, which always felt like home to her.

Lois was the “Number One Fan” of the Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Ralph (Putsy) Caballero. The Phillies won the National League pennant in 1950 and she and her lifelong friend Arline (Shank) O’Callaghan attended the 1950 World Series to cheer on her beloved team and player, at the age of 15.

Lois followed Putsy until he died in 2018 at 89 years old. He and his number “3” were always celebrated by all of her children, many whom met her favorite player on trips to New Orleans where he resided after baseball.

Lois is survived by her eight children: Nancy Hunt of San Marcos, Texas; Sheryl Emmett, Altamonte Springs, Fla.; Dean Schoenewald, Philadelphia; Marjorie Schoenewald, Cape May Court House, N.J.; Dolores Scott-McLurg, Westerville, Ohio; Thomas Schoenewald, Fairview, N.J.; Joseph Schoenewald, Ocean City, N.J.; and Janet Bright, Seabrook, Texas; stepdaughter Deborah Ache, Newark, Del.; and stepson Jack Christy III, Rio Grande, N.J.; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Lois was also survived by her beloved dog Bella.

Lois was predeceased by her father Edward Robinson and mother Ruth (nee Harris) Robinson.

As per Lois’ wishes, her body was donated to Rutgers University, Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center program for science research.

There will be no services. However, those who choose to memorialize her may donate in her memory to their local animal shelter or volunteer firehouse.
