OCEAN CITY — They don’t make ’em like this anymore.
The Dutch Colonial home at 1118 Bay Ave. features all of the best aspects of the classic design from 100 years ago just a clam shell’s toss from Great Egg Harbor Bay in America’s Greatest Family Resort.
Situated on a 45-foot by 100-foot lot, the home features a living room, four-season sunroom, dining room, modern kitchen, laundry room and powder room on the first floor, as well as three bedrooms and two bathrooms on the second floor.
The grounds feature extensive mature landscaping that works to provide beauty as well as privacy, and a one-care garage with a loft that was obviously built to last.
There also is a fenced yard, partially covered porch on the side and a second-floor rear deck with a retractable awning.
Built in 1924, the home features the classic design with a gambrel roof, an arched roof above the main entrance, green awnings on every window, narrow-plank hardwood flooring and fine millwork.
Out front, a white picket fence borders the grassy yard. A concrete path leads down both side to the rear, where the garage is located next to another grassy area.
Heading down the south side, the main entrance is off the porch, where a green door matching the awnings opens into a classic foyer.
The quality craftsmanship is immediately evident in the window and door casings, along with the tall baseboards.
Straight ahead, stairs rise to a landing and turn left before ascending to the second floor. The living room and sunroom are to the right, in the front of the house, while the dining area and other rooms are to the left.
Built-in bookcases along the north wall in the living room are more evidence of the home’s early beginnings, and are again much sought after in modern design.
Two pair of French doors open onto the sunroom, which itself has several doors leading to the front yard, as well as tall windows on three sides and a coffered ceiling. It’s the perfect place for coffee and doughnuts in a bright summer morning, or wine and crackers after a long day on the beach, boardwalk or bay.
A beautiful south-facing window bathes the dining room in light. The home is heated via oil-fueled hot water, and all of the radiators have covers with flat tops, providing a place for decor just beneath the windows.
While the rest of the home proudly displays it century-old roots, the kitchen does nothing of the sort. Modern solid-wood Medallion cabinets line three walls, along with a tile backsplash and granite countertops. Stainless-steel Bosch appliances include a dishwasher to the right of the two-basin stainless sink, a five-burner range/oven with a microwave above and a two-door refrigerator with two freezer drawers. There’s even room for a cafe table for a quick snack.
Off to the right, a hall leads to the laundry facilities and the powder room.
Back in the foyer, the wood stairs with a carpet inlay rise to the second floor, where a shared bathroom is in the rear alongside one of the bedrooms.
The bathroom features 42-inch-high bead board wainscoting, painted blue to offset the white walls with a nautical flair, and tile flooring. There’s a fiberglass tub/shower with a curtain and a pedestal sink.
Like the second-floor hallway, two of the bedrooms have wall-to-wall carpeting. Moving from the rear to the front, the first has a full-size bed and a set of French door opening onto a private rear deck with a glimpse of the bay.
Set up now as an office, the second bedroom is midway down on the right.
The primary suite is in the front and features enough room for a king-size bed atop the hardwood flooring. Natural light flows in through two ocean-facing windows and one to the south.
A small ensuite bathroom has tile flooring and a shower, while there is a vanity around the corner in the bedroom set up as a makeup station.
Ocean City is one of the most popular shore resorts on the East Coast, featuring a 2.5-mile-long oceanfront boardwalk filled with hundreds of shopping, dining and entertainment venues, as well as miles and miles of pristine beaches. There also is an award-winning downtown business district centered on Asbury Avenue and a watersports district around Third Street on Bay Avenue.
The property is listed for $975,000 with Andrew Moon of Marr Agency. Call (609) 289-1030 or email amm@marragency.com for more information or to set up an appointment to see this wonderful home.
