Norman Houser, 86

Norman Houser, 86, of Seaville, passed away at home on Sunday, September 3, 2023.

 Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Dan lived his adult life in Oaklyn and Seaville, New Jersey. He graduated from Collingswood High School in 1955 and served his country for four years, stationed in London, England, as a member of the Air Force.

 After working for Lorillard Tobacco Company and Mueller’s Pasta, Dan found his true calling as a police officer with the  Oaklyn Police Department and rose to the rank of Detective Sergeant. He later joined the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office and was assigned to the FBI Organized Crime Strike Force.

 Dan was a member of the Lion’s Club; President of the Oaklyn – Bettlewood Little League; Head of the Board of Trustees of the Seaville United Methodist Church, and a proud vocalist in the men’s choir every Mother’s Day.

 Dan was an avid golfer and golf memorabilia collector. He took yearly trips to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with his golfing buddies. A devoted family man, Dan attended nearly all of grandchildren’s sporting events and activities, often wearing an Upper Township, Ocean City High School, Saint Joseph’s University, or Ohio State University garment. He loved giving back and used his talents as a handyman to help family members put together toys and furniture, fix odds and ends at his church, and rebuild homes in Kentucky and Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina.

His generosity, loving spirit, and sense of humor will be missed by Joan, his dedicated wife of 54 years; his son, Jim Birchmeier (Linda); his grandchildren, Ryan Birchmeier(Emma) and Katie Fendler (Jon), and great grandson, Quinn Fendler.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Norman andGertrude, and his brother, Ken.

 A visitation was held on Saturday, September 9th at Seaville United Methodist Church, Seaville, NJ.

 Memorials may be given to Seaville United Methodist Church at 3100 Shore Road, Ocean View, NJ 08230.
