Scarangelli, Osunniyi double S.J. title winners

Red Raiders, Mustangs do well at South Jersey sectional track and field meet

FRANKLINVILLE — Ocean City High School senior Nick Scarangelli and Mainland Regional senior Mawali Osunniyi were double winners at the South Jersey Group III track and field sectional over the weekend at Delsea Regional High School.

Scarangelli won the 1600 mete and 3200 meter races. Osunniyi won the high jump and the triple jump.

Scarangelli’s time in the 1600 was 4:24.23 with teammates Matt Hoffman (4:27.32) third and Kal Heyman (4:43:80) ninth. Mustang junior Ethan Bongiovanni was seventh in 4:39.68.

Scarangelli won the 3200 meters in 9:33.02 with Hoffman, a junior, fifth in 9:45.95 and sophomore Ethan Buck seventh in 9:56.22.

Osunniyi went 44’6’5” to win the triple jump and teammate Josiah Williams, a sophomore, came in second less than an inch behind at 44’5.75”. Ocean City’s Hercules Stewart, a sophomore, was fourth at 42’11.75” and Mustang sophomore Khaleeb Foster was 15th at 39’8”.

Osunniyi earned a South Jersey title in the high jump by clearing 6’8”. Teammate Colin Cummings, a sophomore, was ninth at 6’ and Stewart was 13th at 5’8”.

Mustang junior Leo Pierre had the fastest time in the 100 meter dash preliminaries at 11.21 seconds, then turned it up a notch to win the finals with his time of 11 seconds flat.

Pierre also finished fourth in the 200 meters with his time of 23.30 seconds. Deptford senior Lathan Brown won in 22.32 seconds. Mustang Jonathon Perez was 11th in 23.99 seconds.

Mainland senior William Murray won the long jump with his leap of 21’11.25”. Mustang Williams was eighth, going 20’7.25”. Stewart was 12th at 20’2”.

Mustang senior William Spollen was fourth in the 400 meter hurdles in 57.27 seconds and teammate Khaleeb Foster, a sophomore, was 13th in 1:01.35. Ocean City’s James Burke, a junior, was 11th in 1:00.76. Deptford senior Lathan Brown won in 55.40 seconds.

Williams was fourth in the 110 meter high hurdles with a time of 16.22 seconds with teammate Andrew Ramos, a senior with in 16.33 seconds.

Ocean City junior Luke Halbruner was fifth in the 400 meters with a time of 50.46 seconds and teammate Talon Fischer, also a junior, was 12th in 51.56 seconds. Deptford’s Brown won in 48.76 seconds.

Mainland senior Thomas Mozitis was 11th in the pole vault, clearing 11’. Ocean City’s Niko Dounoulis, a junior, was 13th at 10’6”. Toms River South senior Raymond Gardner won at 13’6”.

Bongiovanni was ninth in the 800 meters with his time of 2:05.13. Nasir Ali of Timer Creek won in 1:57.92. Ocean City freshman Robert Cesari was 14th in 2:09.73.

Mainland’s 4×100 relax team was fourth in 43.01 seconds. Deptford won in 42.51 seconds. Ocean City’s 4×800 relay was eighth in 8:49.76 and 4×400 relay ninth in 3:35.12.

Red Raider senior Colin Dice was sixth in the discus throwing a distance of 138’10”. Teammate Anthony Gasparovic, a sophomore, was 13th at 124’10” and fellow sophomore Luke Smith 15th at 123’3”.

Ocean City junior Nick Layton was sixth in the javelin, throwing a distance of 153’7”. Mainland sophomore Brock Martin was 14th at 131’2”. Winslow Township’s James Wilson won at 173’4”.
