Juveniles destroy property at Sea Isle’s Dealy Field

SEA ISLE CITY – Sea Isle City Police reported they received a 911 call at 12:12 a.m. Monday, May 29, reporting a group of juveniles breaking fences and destroying property at Dealy Field’s “Play By The Bay” playground, located at 6108 Central Ave.

Police said officers quickly responded to the scene, where they came in contact with a group of juveniles attempting to leave the area.

An investigation conducted by detectives from the Sea Isle City Police Department determined that two juveniles who were on the scene committed the acts of criminal mischief.

Both juveniles were charged with N.J.S.A. 2C:17-3 criminal mischief, a crime of the third degree.  They were processed and released on summonses in accordance with New Jersey Juvenile Justice Reform directives.  During the prosecution process, the Sea Isle City Police Department will be asking for the most severe penalties on top of financial restitution.

“Sea Isle City’s Police will continue a zero-tolerance strategy when it comes to destructive, unruly, disorderly criminal behavior,” SICPD Chief Anthony Garreffi said.  “To assist with this strategy, dozens of high-resolution surveillance cameras have been installed throughout the City of Sea Isle City. In addition to increased surveillance efforts, we are also asking the public for their assistance in reporting such behavior immediately to the police in order to increase the likelihood of apprehension.”

Any resident or visitor who witnesses illegal behavior is asked to dial 9-1-1 immediately.
