Ocean City’s Styer, Curtis win individual events, team up to help win relay
OCEAN CITY — Mainland Regional’s Emma Crozier-Carole and Gillian Lovett were double winners at the 2023 Cape-Atlantic League Track and Field Championship on May 24 at Bridgeton High School.
Red Raiders Sophia Curtis and Elaina Styer each won an event and teamed up with two other Ocean City girls to win the 4×100 meter relay.
Crozier-Carole, a senior, won the long jump with her leap of 17’7”, just a half-inch ahead of her teammate, senior McKenna Pontari, who took second place with a jump of 17’6.5”.
Fellow Mustang Paige Bonczek, a senior, was seventh at 15’11.5”.
Crozier-Carole won the 100 meter hurdles with her time of 15.01 seconds. Teammate Caitlyn Lin (17:00) was fifth and Lauren Crino, another junior, was ninth at 18.03 seconds.
Lovett, a junior, controlled the distance events, winning the 1600 meters and 3200 meters.
Her winning time in the 1600 meters was 5:05.66. Teammates Emma Preissman, a freshman, and junior Claudia Booth were third and eighth, respectively. Preissman’s time was 5:17.81 and Booth clocked in at 5:44.05.
Lovett won the 3200 meters in 11:25.59. Junior teammate Sophia Goldstein was third in 12:36.14.
Croziere-Carole teamed up with Bonczek, Lin and Sienna Bodkin to take second place in the 4×100 relay, just behind Ocean City’s team. The Mustangs clocked in at 50.72 seconds.
Mainland also took second place in the 4×800 meter relay with Goldstein, Shayne Connolly, Chloe Malone and Mackenzie Miller. Their time was 4:33.78.
Senior Kalla Tocci-Rogers placed second in the triple jump with her leap of 37’. Bodkin was fourth at 34’7.75” and Aryanna Perez was seventh at 33’10.5”.
Crozier-Carole and Tocci-Rogers placed second and third in the high jump. Crozier-Carole cleared 5’4” and Tocci-Rogers went over the bar at 5’.
Mustang freshman Camryn DeMorat finished second in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:09.62 and Perez was sixth in 1:12.23.
Teammate Ava McDole, a sophomore, was fourth in the 800 meters with her time of 2:26.84. DeMorat also was eighth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.7 seconds.
Bonczek was ninth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.11 seconds.
Three Mustang juniors went 2-3-4 in the pole vault. Lauren Crino was second clearing 9’6”, Bodkin was third at 9’ and Monica Todoroz was fourth at 8’6”.
In the javelin, junior Sydney Booth was sixth with a throw of 96’2” and fellow junior Kassandra Bretones was ninth at 94’1”.
Teammate Kaitlin Stanchina was sixth in the shot put with her distance of 29’7”.

Curtis, a junior, won the 400 meters in 57.45 seconds.
Styer, a senior, won the high jump by clearing 5’4” with the fewest misses. (Crozier-Carole cleared the same height for second.) Teammate McKenna Chisholm was fourth, clearing 4’10”, and freshman Callie Duff was fifth at 4’10”.
Curtis, Styer, sophomore Naomi Nnewihe and senior Tricia Nicoletti teamed up to win the 4×100 meter race in 50.11 seconds.
Sophomore Maeve Smith was second in the 800 meters in 2:21.18, Chloe Care, also a sophomore, was fifth in 2:27.33 and junior Frankie Ritzel was eighth in 2:30.38.
Nnewihe also placed fourth in the 200 meter dash with her time of 26.42 seconds. She was fifth in the 100 meters in 12.76 seconds.
In the 1600 meters, sophomore Zoe Zammit was seventh in 5:37.29 and senior Olivia Palmieri was ninth in 4:47.32.
Duff and freshman Scarlett Fletcher were fourth and eighth, respectively, in the 400 meter hurdles. Duff’s time was 1:10.83 and Fletcher came in at 1:12.71.
Freshman Sadie Heyman was seventh in the 3200. Her time was 13:21.63.
Sophomore Madyn Rihl was eighth in the triple jump with a distance of 32’5.25”.
