‘No threat to the public’
SOMERS POINT — Authorities are investigating the fatal shooting of a woman Saturday morning at a Third Street home.
The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and Somers Point Police Department are investigating the death.
According to a news release from the Prosecutor’s Office, police responded to the home in the 600 block at about 7:23 a.m. March 4 after receiving a report that an individual was suffering from a gunshot wound.
Officers located a female inside who ultimately was pronounced deceased, the release stated. It is not clear whether the victim was alive at the time officers arrived.
“There is no threat to the public as a result,” the release states without clarification. “The investigation is ongoing.”
Neither the identity nor the age of the victim was released.
No information about a suspect was included in the release. Reached Monday morning, Chief Robert Somers directed inquiries to the Prosecutor’s Office. Asked if the wound were self-inflicted, he did not reply.
Reached via email, First Assistant Prosecutor Erik Bergman stated: “We’ve released all of the information we can at this point. This is still an active investigation.”
