Charles F. Cossaboone, Jr. “Chic” passed away unexpectedly on November 26th, 2022. Chic was born in Sea Isle, NJ on December 13, 1948 to the late Charles F. Cossaboone and Ruth VanVorst.
Chic grew up in Upper Township and was a graduate of Ocean City High School in 1967 where he met and later married the love of his life, Jean “Maude” Sampson. Chic entered the Army in April of 1968 and served in Vietnam from 1969 to 1970. In 1971 he was discharged and moved to Petersburg, where he and his wife and their children have resided for 51 years. Chic began working for Tuckahoe Turf Farm in 1972, where he devoted his time and love for his job through 3 generations of Betts ownership.
Chic had many hobbies, among them were hunting and fishing. But his all time favorite was being behind the wheel of a racecar, “The Tuckahoe Tornado.” He raced for over 40 years: “the ride of a lifetime.” He was a member of the Marmora Post 8695 VFW and American Legion Post 1000. His patriotism and his love for his country influenced his children and grandchildren. He lived his life doing things he loved and sharing them with his family, all the while leaving his imprint on all of our lives.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years “Maude”, his siblings Gordon Lorenzo, Georgette (Mark) Buckley, and Jackie Cossaboone; his children, Kim (John) McCardell, Shelli (Chris) Endicott, Chic Jr. (Amy) Cossaboone; his 13 grandchildren, Alex, Cassie, Johnny, Sammy, and Nicky McCardell; James (Rebecca), Stephanie and Josh (Jennifer) Jackson, Ashley Chattin, Christopher Endicott; Jessie, Katy, and Charley Cossaboone; and 8 great grandchildren, Aaron and Adrian Fernandez, Brayden and Lucas Weaver, Ella Jackson, Amelia and Alayah Scott, Dani Endicott, and another great granddaughter, Adelynn Jackson, on the way.
