GoFundMe page set up to help

OCEAN CITY – A family was displaced by a devastating house fire early Tuesday morning in Ocean City.

At 6:29 a.m. Tuesday, the Ocean City Fire Department responded to the report of a structure fire at 1912 Ferndale Drive.

Upon arrival, firefighters reported heavy fire conditions on all floors of the rear side of a two-and-a-half-story home with extension to the attic area, according to Ocean City public information officer Doug Bergen.

All occupants of the residence evacuated on their own with no injuries reported. A dog belonging to the owners of the residence was rescued from the building by firefighters, he said.

A GoFundMe.com page has been set up for the family and by Wednesday morning had raised more than $30,000. To contribute, go to GoFundMe.com and search for “Bogdan House Fire.”

Fire Department crews entered two neighboring houses that were considered fire exposure hazards and completed primary and secondary searches. The buildings were protected with the use of multiple water lines and suffered limited heat damage, Bergen said.

The Fire Department was successful in extinguishing the fire and containing it to the building of origin. A full fire department recall of all off duty members was initiated to assist with the fire and to provide backup for potential other emergency calls, Bergen reported.

The OCFD response included three engines, two ambulances and one truck. Mutual aid assistance was provided by Marmora Volunteer Fire Company, Somers Point Volunteer Fire Company, Margate Fire Department (Rapid Intervention Team), as well as the New Jersey State Fire Marshal’s Office.

The home suffered extensive damage. One firefighter suffered a minor injury that did not require immediate medical attention. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and remains under investigation.
