Winifred M. Leute, 95

Leute, Winifred “Winnie” M. – 95, of Ocean City, NJ and Havertown, PA.

Following a short period of declining health, Winifred “Winnie” (nee Mutchler) Leute of Ocean City, NJ and Havertown, PA passed away peacefully on Tuesday October 11th at The Shores.

Born in Mt. Carmel, PA, Winnie attended Upper Darby High School and graduated from Clifton Heights High School (Class of 45). Winnie attended Ursinus College, where she met and married Moe. Together they became part of the tightly knit Ursinus Gang, whose friendships deepened over many years while playing field hockey on the Ol’ Timers club team, at the beach in Ocean City, skiing at Split Rock, PA, or around the bridge table. Winnie was an active

member of Ocean City Yacht Club, Greate Bay Country Club, CIGNA’s Eagle Lodge (PA), and St. Peter’s United Methodist Church in Ocean City. Known by all for her competitive spirit, Winnie was an accomplished athlete throughout her life. She was the two time women’s club champion at Greate Bay CC and Eagle Lodge CC, as well as part of a weekly tennis foursome into her 80’s. While in Havertown, Winnie supported Moe’s family practice; and she also served

as a Bryn Mawr Hospital thrift shop volunteer where she developed her keen eye for bargains. She could often be found cheering on her daughters and grandchildren from the sidelines of their college and high school hockey, lacrosse, and soccer games. She also attended their theater productions, surf contests, horse shows, and regattas from the OCYC Tower.

Winnie was the beloved wife and life companion of Millard “Moe” S. Leute, MD (d. 2016).

She leaves behind her three daughters, Linda L. Givens (Charlie, d.) of Cape May, NJ, Beverly L. Bruce (Alan) of Scituate, MA, and Nan L. Walker (Jason) of Fernandina Beach, FL; nephews Jeffrey Leute (Robert McGarry) of Shrewsbury, NJ, Tracy Leute (Landa) of Stamford, CT, and Jerry Leute (d.) . In addition, Winnie was loving “Grammy” to Ryan Givens (Gina), Lindsay Casale (Dan), Chad Bruce, Hadlee Walker; and “Great-Grammy” to Sadie and Juniper. Winnie was preceded in death by her sister Jacqueline Harkins.

The family would like to thank the staff of The Shores in Ocean City and the Journeys hospice team for the care and kindness they provided to make Winnie’s final days ones of dignity and support.

At the family’s request, the memorial service will be held at a later date at the family’s convenience. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to remember Winnie can make a donation in her memory to the Ursinus College Bruins Club ( https://www.ursinus.edu/support-uc/bruins-club/), Collegeville, PA ; St. Peter’s United Methodist Church (https://www.makingwaves.church/) Ocean City, NJ.; or Special Olympics ( https://www.specialolympics.org/).
