Ronald James McKinnon, 87, died at home on August 30, 2022.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Roberta “Robie” (nee Nischwitz) McKinnon, two daughters Kristin Redmond (Patrick) of Haddonfield, NJ and Nancy McKinnon of Albuquerque, NM & one grandson, Colin Redmond.
Ron was born in Nanticoke, PA & resided in Plymouth, PA until moving to NJ during college. He graduated from Plymouth High School in 1953, attended Penn State University & graduated from Newark College of Engineering with a BS in Civil Engineering. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict 1954-57.
Ron worked for Aurnhammer Associates, Summit, NJ as a surveyor during college & later as a licensed PE. They formed a partnership & opened an engineering firm, Aurnhammer McKinnon in Hamburg, NJ. Ron had a 30 year career as a municipal engineer beginning with Mt. Olive Township in 1967 and retiring from Rockaway Twp. in 1997.
Ron & Robie resided in Washington Twp, Morris County for 38 years, before retiring to Ocean City, NJ in 2005. Ron was an avid golfer, and fan of Penn State football, New York Yankees & New York Giants. He loved attending his grandson’s baseball games.
Over his lifetime, Ron had many interests including sailing, flying, playing the guitar, woodcarving, growing bonsai trees, photography, and exploring his Scottish heritage & family genealogy. He enjoyed their many travels, including Scotland and throughout the US and spending winters in Marco Island, FL. He was an avid reader, and always wanted to learn new things.
A Service of Memory and Love will be offered Friday, September 9th at 12 Noon from St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, Eighth Street at Central Avenue, Ocean City, NJ where friends may call from eleven o’clock until he time of service.
Funeral arrangements are being made by Godfrey Funeral Home, Ocean City, NJ.
