Adelene C. Gegnas (née Cranston), of Furlong, PA and Ocean City, NJ, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Sunday, July 3, 2022, at Doylestown Health Hospice. She was 82 years old.
Born in Philadelphia, Adelene was the daughter of the late Richard and Myrtle Cranston, and the wife of Edward W. Gegnas, Jr., to whom she was married 60 years.
Adelene graduated from Frankford High School in 1957 and subsequently worked as a legal secretary. She later left that position to devote herself to being a stay-at-home mother, a role which she cherished. Throughout the years, Adelene was active in bowling and tennis leagues, in her ladies’ bridge group, and in knitting squares for her church’s prayer blanket mission. Adelene especially loved spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren at her second home in Ocean City, NJ. She enjoyed sitting on the beach, watching the ocean, and looking for seashells with her grandchildren. In recent years, Adelene was an avid member of the Ocean City Shuffleboard Club and often played pinochle at the Ocean City Senior Center.
In addition to her husband, Adelene is survived by: daughter Laura G. Paolella and husband David, and their children Nathan and Matthew of Malvern, PA; son Edward Gegnas III and wife Kristen, and their children Edward, Ella, Ava and Mia, of Pennington, NJ; daughter Susan G. Perricelli and husband Scott, and their children Nicholas, Julia and Christopher of Chestnut Hill, PA; and her sister Joyce Speeney and husband Michael, of Newtown, PA.
Relatives and friends are invited to join Adelene’s family at her viewing on Friday, July 8, 2022, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 241 E. Butler Ave. (and Sandy Ridge Rd), New Britain, PA 18901, and then on Saturday, July 9, 2022, from 9:00 AM until her 10:00 AM funeral service, at Lenape Valley Church, 321 W Butler Ave, New Britain, PA 18901. Interment to follow at Doylestown Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Adelene’s memory may be made to the Pearl S. Buck International Foundation (pearlsbuck.org), 520 Dublin Road, Perkasie, PA 18944.
