Trent Chandler Shoots 39 at Brambley Golf League  last week

OCEAN CITY – For the second time in two weeks one of our Brambley golfers has managed to break the magical threshold of shooting below 40 strokes on the 12-hole, par-37 Ocean City Municipal Golf Course.

This usually happens only a couple times a year and this time it was Trent Chandler who shot a 2-over-par 39. Trent’s round featured two birdies on the front six in which he shot a scorching 1-under-par 17. As such, Trent was our Overall Low Gross Winner for the week. Right behind him were Rich Hawthorne and Dave Carter with a pair of 42s.

The Ladies Low Gross competition winner was Jean Bush, who recorded a 49. This marks our sixth different female winner this season thus far. Other golfers with fine rounds who scored in the 40s were Joe Tripoli, Jim McElderry, Don Copeland, Bernie Krieg, Joe Karwowski, Derek Rearden, Peter Sollazzo and Chris Devaney.

Carter continues to chip away at his handicap and was able to win the Flight A Low Net competition with a final score of 33. Krieg and Copeland also had solid rounds to tie for second place with a final score of 35. In Flight  B Low Net, Devaney is beginning to assert himself by beating his handicap by six strokes to easily win first place with a final score of 31. Second place was a tie between Stacey Chandler and Mike Foster at 36.

In the super competitive Walt Thompson Senior Division, Jim McElderry and Joe Tripoli were tied in gross scores but due to handicapping rules Jim gets low net first place with a final score of 31 and Joe netted 32 for second place. Judy McElderry gets the third-place nod with a 34.

We had a total of five birdies this week led by Chandler who carded two. Other birdies went to Carter, Hawthorne and Ron Hermann. Devaney closed out his excellent day by winning the Closest to the Pin Contest by landing his shot 16’1” from the cup on finishing hole No. 12.

We were glad to see the return of Hermann and Kathy Banco to the group and welcome first-time players Frank Whitehead and Cathie Rappaport. We hope to see more of them in the future.

The Brambley Golf League is still accepting new players for the season. Membership Chairperson Jeanne Robinson will be at the scorer’s table every Monday morning  to sign up new members.
