Vineland man drowns in apparent rip current in Corsons Inlet Park

OCEAN CITY — A Vineland man drowned Friday, June 17, after reportedly getting caught in a rip current in the water off Corsons Inlet State Park, according to a spokesman.

New Jersey State Park Police responded to the park at the south end of the island after seeing an Ocean City Fire Department vehicle entering the park, said Larry Hajna of the Department of Environmental Protection, which oversees the park.

Upon arrival, members of the Ocean City Beach Patrol were observed administering CPR to Nathaniel Figueroa, 21.

Hajna said Figueroa was transported to Shore Medical Center in Somers Point, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Toxicology reports are pending.

Responding agencies included the New Jersey State Park Police, Ocean City Police Department, Ocean City Fire Department and Ocean City Beach Patrol.

Figueroa is a graduate of Vineland High School Class of 2020 who recently completed his freshman year at Rowan College of South Jersey in Gloucester County, where he played baseball, according to his obituary.

Known as “Nito,” he is the son of Holvin and Rosalie Figueroa of Vineland.
