Mustangs Morrison, Dirkes second at state meet

Mainland Regional and Ocean City athletes advance to Meet of Champions

PENNSAUKEN – Mainland Mustang teammates Camryn Dirkes and Eva Morrison finished second in their events at the Group III state track and field championships Friday and Saturday at Pennsauken High School.

Morrison earned her second-place finish in the pole vault, clearing 10’6”. Teammate Monica Todorov was 11th at 9’.

Dirkes took second in the javelin with her throw of 125’1”.

Dirkes also finished third in the long jump, going 17’3.5” and was seventh in the triple jump at 35’6.75”.

Mainland’s Kalla Tocci-Rogers was fifth at the state meet in the high jump, going over the bar at 5’.

Mustang Linden Wineland was fifth in the 3200-meter run with his time of 9:29.80 and he finished sixth in the 1600 meters with a time of 4:24.19.

Teammates Mawali Ossuniyi and William Murray posted eighth-place finishes in their events. Ossuniyi cleared 6’ in the high jump and Murray leaped 21’3.75” in the long jump.

Gillian Lovett was ninth in the 3200 meters with her time of 11:30.64 and Mainland teammate Savannah Hodgens was 17th in the event in 12:01.07.

Lovett was 13th in the 1600 meters, clocking in at 5:18.43 and teammate Ava McDole was 18th at 5:35.75.

The girls 4×800 relay team of Lily Malone, Claudia Booth, Sophie Goldstein and Chloe Malone was ninth overall at states with a time of 10:06.54.

The boys 4×100 relay team of Murray, Jaden Bergman, Cody Pierce and Leo Pierre was 10th with their time of 43.92 seconds.

Cadence Fitzgerald finished 10th in the shot put with her toss of 35’0.5” and teammate Naz’Jade Cochran-Hutt was 23rd at 30’4.25”.

Mainland’s Andrew Ramos was 16th in the 110-meter hurdles. His time was 16.51 seconds.

Ocean City

Senior Owen Ritti and junior Elaina Styer each had a fifth-place finish at the state Group III track and field championships.

Ritti earned his finish in the 800 meters with a time of 1:57.72 and Styer for clearing 5’ in the high jump. Styer also was eighth in the triple jump, going 35’6” and 19th in the long jump with her leap of 15’8”.

The Ocean City boys 4×800 relay team was ninth in 8:15.99.

Nick Scarangelli placed 12th in the 3200-meter run in a time of 9:56.87 and was 14th in the 1600 meters in 4:36.75.

Senior Aodhan Daly was 18th in the 400-meter hurdles. His time was 1:00.63.

Top finishers are going on to compete at the Meet of Champions this weekend.

Among those earning berths and getting wild card shots for the Meet of Champions are Dirkes, Morrison, Wineland, Murray and Tocci-Rodgers for Mainland and Ritti and Styer for Ocean City.
