Six-bedroom home fit for big family, friends in Riviera part of city

OCEAN CITY — Something new is old again at 71 Spruce Road in the popular Riviera section of the city.

“This exquisite home is appointed with the finest finishes available and blends classic shore aesthetics with updated amenities,” real estate agent Jason Frost said.

The Riviera section of the city stretches from 16th Street to Tennessee Avenue and includes many lagoons and bayous with sheltered anchorages offering access to Great Egg Harbor Bay. Most of the homes have water views or are just a clam shell’s throw away from one.

The home was renovated in 2019 by Belza Development of Haddonfield and now offers six bedrooms, five bathrooms and a ground-floor powder room with dual living areas to suit multigenerational gatherings.

“As you approach, you are greeted with a covered front porch that overlooks a well-manicured refuge island across the street complete with a paver walkway,” Frost said.

A lush, green lawn is to the right with a mulched bed featuring mature landscaping in front of the porch, which has durable, maintenance-free composite stairs and decking. A sliding gate makes this ideal for keeping small children and pets from wandering off. Cushioned wicker furniture is perfect for relaxing after a long day on the beach or bay.

The concrete parking pad in front of the one-car attached garage and walkway leading to the backyard are to the left.

The dark solid-wood front door with six glass panes and side panels opens onto the foyer, where a handsome wooden staircase ascends to the second floor. Narrow-plank hardwood flooring runs throughout the main living area.

“The first floor of this remarkable 3,000-square-foot home offers a spacious floor plan, fantastic living space (complete with a built-in fireplace) with sight lines to the kitchen, dining room and additional den area, gourmet kitchen with a large island and additional sink, as well as an expansive dining area,” Frost said.

A sitting room is to the right, where a sofa sits atop an area rug. The furniture and décor are decidedly nautical. Two windows overlooking the front and two on the side provide natural light.

The sitting room is open to a larger living room in the back, where two sofas, an armchair and large coffee table are centered around a gas fireplace with a wood mantel. A large-screen television is mounted to the wall above. Perhaps the best part of this area is the coffered ceiling 9 feet above. A triple window overlooks the screened porch and patio/pool area, which are accessed by a sliding glass door.

“Off the main living area, you will find a screened-in rear deck equipped with a built-in fireplace and television to use when coming to and from the in-ground pool and backyard lanai area,” Frost said.

The fantastic kitchen is just steps away and includes abundant white J&K cabinets and a large granite-topped center island with four stools on two sides. In fact, the center island wins the award for the largest this writer has seen in more than six years of dazzling readers with detailed write-ups on area properties.

The island includes a stainless-steel sink and under-counter beverage center. More cabinets are situated along two walls. High-end stainless-steel KitchenAid appliances include an in-counter range with four burners and a center griddle beneath a hood, dishwashers on both sides of the Houzer farmhouse sink (just in case you are left-handed), a built-in microwave and oven and a two-door, two-drawer refrigerator with bottom freezer drawer.

The main dining area is in the rear and features a beautiful round wood table with nine chairs beneath a hanging lamp. Seven windows overlook the patio.

A hallway leads from the kitchen past a closet beneath the stairs and to the foyer. An offshoot to the right provides access to the garage and powder room with mini-tile flooring, a granite-topped vanity and toilet.

The narrow-plank hardwood flooring also is found on the second floor, where there are five bedrooms including the master suite and a junior master suite. The hall includes shadow-box wainscoting.

Two bedrooms are to the right and share a bathroom with a tile floor, fiberglass tub with subway tile to the ceiling and a granite-topped vanity. The front bedroom is set up as another sitting room.

The third bedroom is the junior master suite. It has a queen-size bed flanked by windows and nightstands. A pocket door opens onto the full bathroom, which has a tile floor, granite-topped vanity with his and hers sinks and a shower tiled to the ceiling with sliding glass doors. Mirrors over the vanity are bordered by rope in the nautical fashion.

The master bedroom is in the back left. It has a peaked ceiling with wood planks above the king-size bed and a sliding glass door opening onto a private back porch. The bathroom has a herringbone-patterned tile floor, granite-topped vanity with his and hers sinks and a large shower tiled to the ceiling with sliding glass doors, as well as a walk-in closet.

Down the hall toward the front of the house is a laundry room with full-size LG Tromm series washer and dryer. Two cabinets above provide storage for detergent.

The final bedroom on this floor is in the front. It also has a king-size bed and full bathroom with a tile floor. A corner shower stall has subway tile to the ceiling and granite-topped vanity.

“This is a truly remarkable home, perfect as a shore retreat or for year-round living,” Frost said. “It was designed with the highest quality/low-maintenance building materials and excellent craftsmanship.”

But wait, there’s more.

Carpeted stairs ascend to the top floor, which is a children’s paradise beneath a peaked ceiling. There is a large play area with wall-to-wall carpeting and a bedroom with six built-in beds with multiple built-in beds for the little ones, as well as an additional full bathroom with a tile floor, granite-topped vanity with his and hers sinks and a tub/shower with subway tile up to and on the ceiling.

Back outside, a walkway through a trellis and gate in the 6-foot vinyl fence leads past the outside shower to the patio and in-ground pool.

The home is listed for $1.699 million with Jason Frost of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices, Fox & Roach Realtors. Call (609) 335-2845 or email jason@jasonjfrost.com for more information or to set up an appointment to tour this wonderful home.
