One new COVID death in Cape May County

The death toll from COVID-19 has reached 90 among residents of Cape May County.

The county Department of Health announced Monday, Sept. 14, that a 64-year-old man from Woodbine had died.

There have now been 1,240 positive test results in the county since the pandemic began in mid-March.

As of Monday, there were 96 active cases of COVID-19 among residents, eight additional active cases in the county’s long-term care facilities and six cases among non-residents.

A number of county communities have cases in the double digits, including Lower Township (15), Woodbine (14), Upper Township (13), Wildwood and Middle Township (12 each) and Dennis Township (10). Other active case include Ocean City (8), North Wildwood (6), Cape May and Sea Isle City (2 each), and Cape May Point and Wildwood Crest (1 each).

The active case in Cape May Point is the first case of COVID-19 that community has seen  during the pandemic.

Of the eight cases in long-term case, five are in Woodbine and three are in Dennis Township.

Cape May and Upper Township have two cases each among non-residents and there is one case in Middle Township and one in Sea Isle City.

There were four new cases of the coronavirus among residents reported in the county Monday – two each in Upper Township and Middle Township. Upper Township also had the sole non-resident case reported Monday.

On Sunday, there were three new cases among residents and three among non-residents, and on Saturday, six new cases among residents, three of them in Upper Township. On Friday, Sept. 11, there were 11 positive test results, including three each in Lower and Dennis townships, two in Sea Isle City, and one each in Cape May and Cape May Point. The Cape May Point is the one active case in that community.
