The Cape May County Department of Health announced Monday, Aug. 3, that there was only one active COVID-19 case in long-term care in the county.
It is in Lower Township, which saw the largest number of cases and fatalities (33) in long-term care since the pandemic began. As of the middle of last week, there were 29 cases in long-term care, but that dropped to one Monday.
That compares to 80 active cases among residents across the county.
As of Aug. 3, Upper Township had the most with 16, followed by Lower Township with 15 and Sea Isle City with 11.
There were eight active cases in Dennis Township, seven in Middle Township, six in Ocean City, five in Cape May, three in Woodbine, two each in Avalon, Stone Harbor, Wildwood and North Wildwood, and one in Wildwood Crest.
There were no active cases in Cape May Point, West Cape May and West Wildwood.
There have now been 991 people infected with the coronavirus in the county since the pandemic began and 82 deaths, 56 of them in long-term care facilities.
There were five new cases reported countywide on Monday, three among residents and two among visitors.
On Sunday, the Department of Health reported nine new COVID-19 cases, five among residents and four of them visitors. On Saturday, there were six positive results, five among residents, including two in Ocean City. On Friday, July 31, there were eight cases, including five among visitors to the county, and the department said a 69-year-old Middle Township man died of complications from the coronavirus.
On July 30, there were five new case reported, including four among residents; and on July 29, there were eight new cases, seven of them affecting county residents.
