Northfield man charged with leaving the scene of fatal accident Saturday

MAYS LANDING — A Northfield man has been charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident after an investigation alleges he struck and killed a pedestrian early Saturday morning in Absecon, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Cary Shill announced.

A cooperative investigation by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Crash Investigations Unit and the Absecon Police Department alleged that on Jan. 8, Matthew Cademartori, 25, was traveling eastbound in the early morning hours on the White Horse Pike when he struck Talmadge Franklin, 67, of Absecon who was walking eastbound. After striking Franklin, Cademartori left the scene of the crash, the investigation determined.

Cademartori was placed under arrest at his home  on Jan. 10, 2022, and charged with second degree leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle crash. He was transported to the Absecon Police Department  where he was processed and then transported to the Atlantic County Justice Facility where he is lodged, pending a detention hearing. Assistant Prosecutor Kathleen Robinson represents the state in this matter.
