OCEAN CITY – Oakcrest goalie Gabrielle Gibson made 20 saves in the Sept. 7 soccer game against Ocean City, but she couldn’t stop the onslaught.

By halftime, Red Raider attacker Summer Reimet had scored three goals. In the entire game, the Falcons managed to put only three shots on goal, all rebuffed by Ocean City goalie Tori Vliet.

Almost the entire first half, the Falcons were on their heels, trying to thwart the Ocean City attack. They managed to stop it multiple times, but on the rare occasions they were able to clear the ball beyond midfield, Ocean City was back in the Falcons’ end immediately.

Reimet scored her first goal 7 minutes into the game as teammate Naomi Nnewihe came in on goal from the left side. As Gibson came over to cover Nnewihe, she crossed it to Reimet for the easy finish.

With just over 15 minutes gone int the half, Joy Slimmer provided the assist on the next Reimet goal. And then, with just under 11 minutes to go in the half, Reimet made it a hat trick, this time with an assist by Coryn McDonnell.

Ocean City picked up three more goals, including two quickly into the second half. Reimet made it 4 goals on the day and Hope Slimmer and Mckenna Chisolm added a goal apiece.

Joy Slimmer added another assist, and Chisholm and Zoey Lappin also were credited with assists.

Ocean City’s second game of the season was rained out and their out-of-conference game against Rancocas Valley for Monday was canceled. The girls travel to Cedar Creek for a 4 p.m. game Wednesday.

Mainland girls win and tie

The Mainland Mustang girls soccer team opened the season with a 4-0 shutout over Oakcrest, getting a pair of goals from Julia Kaes and one each from Alyssa Turner and Camryn Dirkes.

The Mustangs peppered Oakcrest goalie Gabriel Gibson, forcing her to make 21 saves.

Katie Bretones and Genevieve Morton split time in goal for Mainland, each recording 3 saves.

Gabbie Dittus scored the lone goal for the Falcons.

In their second game of the season, the Mustangs tied Shawnee 1-1 in an out-of-conference game. The teams tied after a scoreless first half.

Dirkes scored on an assist from Jane Meade.

Morrison made 6 saves for the Mustangs, who had the advantage in shots against Shawnee. Shawnee goalie Ava Rieger made 11 saves to preserve the tie.

The Mustangs are at Pleasantville at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday.
