Beesleys Point boy, 15, is competing at USA Waterski Championship

BEESLEYS POINT – Zac Fosbenner, 15, of Beesleys Point, will compete in the 79th Goode USA Waterski National Championship on Aug. 11 in Wilmington, Ill. in the  boys 4 division, (U16) slalom event.

Fosbenner was third at the Eastern Region Waterski Championship July 23. This will his third Nationals competition. He has been competing since age 7 in tournaments held from Virginia to Connecticut.. He comes from a family of water skiers.  His sister and father have been competing for years also.

Nearly 700 water ski athletes from across the United States are in Waters Edge in Wilmington, Ill., Sunday through Saturday, for the 79th GOODE Water Ski National Championships. Action begins at 7 a.m. (central) daily.

The nation’s top water ski athletes are competing for national titles in slalom, tricks, jumping and overall in respective age divisions and two open divisions. Advancement to the world’s largest three-event water ski tournament is primarily earned through placement on the national rankings list. Athletes also can qualify by placing in the top-five in the previous year’s event or at respective 2021 regional championships.  

The first national championships was held in 1939 at Jones Beach in Long Island, N.Y. Except for three years during World War II (1942-1944), the Nationals has been held every year since 1939. 

GOODE Skis, a National level sponsor of USA Water Ski & Wake Sports, has been the title sponsor since 2000.
