MARMORA – Everyone got out safely from a house fire in Marmora last week.
The Marmora Volunteer Fire Company and Upper Township Division of EMS were dispatched to a structure fire on North Quail Drive in the Marmora section of Upper Township around 9:50 p.m. Wednesday, June 23.
According to the Marmora company, firefighters were concerned because of reports of a person possibly trapped inside the building. Additional resources were requested from the Seaville Fire and Rescue, the Tuckahoe Volunteer Fire Company and the Upper Township Rescue Squad.
Firefighters found heavy fire coming out of the second-floor windows and roof area when they arrived on the scene, according to the company. Firefighters immediately started a search of the first floor for any potential victims while simultaneously putting water on the fire in the second floor and roof before searching the second floor.
All occupants made it out of the house safely, the company reported. A tower ladder was positioned to put out the fire in the attic. Due to the location of the blaze, no hydrants were available so additional water resources were requested from Ocean View Volunteer Fire Company, Dennis Volunteer Fire Company and Scullville Volunteer Fire Company.
The Somers Point Volunteer Fire Department and Ocean City Fire Department provided coverage for the area while Upper Township firefighters were operating on the scene.
Firefighters were on the scene for about four hours. The New Jersey State Police also was on the scene.
According to the Marmora Volunteer Fire Company, the fire is being investigated by the N.J. State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Cape May County Fire Marshal’s office.
There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians.
