Jamison wins javelin, other Red Raiders, Mustangs earn medals, set PR, in top six

FRANKLINVILLE – Ocean City’s 4×800 relay team earned first place at the South Jersey Group III track and field championships Friday, June 4, at Delsea Regional High School and teammate Brad Jamison won the sectional title in the javelin.
Other Red Raiders and Mainland Mustangs earned medals, finished in the top six in the sectional and set personal record (PR) times.
Ocean City’s team of Owen Ritti, Tyler Greene, Brendan Schlatter and Drew Tarr finished in 8 minutes, 12.72 seconds to win the race, a little more than 5 seconds faster than second-place Timber Creek.
Jamison threw the javelin 168’9” to win the event, more than 8 feet farther than second-place Austin Hudak of Hammonton. Teammate Mike Constantino was eighth, setting a personal record of 139’7”, and teammate Noah Murray set his own personal record of 113’1” for 19th place. Mainland’s Chris Campbell was 15th, also with a personal record, of 118’2”. Mustangs Nick Timek and JJ Sinclair finished 21st and 22nd.
More medalists
Ritti, Greene, Tarr and Schlatter earned a second-place finish in the 4×400 relay with their time of 3:32.8. Deptford’s team won in 3:25.78.
Ritti took second place in the 800 meters with his personal record time of 1:59.1, a half-second behind winner Joshua Thaler of Timber Creek. Greene was fourth in the event in 2:00.33 and teammate Tarr was ninth in 2:04.13.
Mustangs Nathan Waters (27th), Jackson Waters (32nd) and Ryan Madamba (36th) all set personal records in the 800.
Ritti and Greene finished fourth and sixth in the 1600 meters and Mainland’s Linden Wineland was fifth. Ritti’s time was 4:25.42, Wineland finished in 4:25.68 and Greene in 4:27.56. Ryan Tobin of Toms River South won in 4:22.23.
Ocean City’s Nick Scarangelli was ninth and Mainland’s Matt Wynne was 15th and Vaughn Blanchet 31st.
Mustang Cody Pierce finished third in the 400 meters with a time of 49.78 seconds, which was a state top 50 time. Bridgeton’s Edward Jamison won in 49.56 seconds.
Ocean City’s Aodhan Daly (55.78 seconds, PR) and Josh Hutchinson (57.64) were 25th and 30th.
Mainland’s Wineland was fourth in the 3200 meters and had a state top 50 time with his finish in 9:34.83. Toms River South’s Tobin won in a time of 9:30.76. Ocean City’s Scarangelli was 10th in 10.12.4 and teammate Nicholas Ferzetti was 13th in 10.34.66; both set personal records in the event.
Mainland’s Blanchet and Wynne were 18th and 24th, respectively – Wynne set a PR – and Red Raider Chris Sardy was 20th.
Triple jump,
high hurdles
Ocean City’s Dan Givens was fourth in the triple jump with his distance of 43’1” and finished fifth in the long jump with a leap of 20’8.5”. Floyd Whitaker of Highland Regional won the triple jump with a distance of 48’ and won the long jump, going 22’8.5”. Brett Oves was 16th in the long jump (17’10”) and teammate Aidan O’Kane was 21st at 16’11”. Red Raiders Niko Dounoulis was 15th (36’6”) and O’Kane 20th (35’9.25”) in the triple jump. Mustang Arjun Appel was 16th at 36’5.75”.
Givens set a personal record in the 110 high hurdles with his time of 16.43 seconds, which was good for seventh place. Deptford’s Julian Rodriguez won in 14.83 seconds, a state top 10 time.
Ocean City’s Daly (1:01.51) and Schlatter (1:02.7) finished eighth and 10th in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles. Deptford’s Julian Rodriguez won the event in 56.02 seconds.
Mainland’s William Spollen and Andrew Ramos were 16th and 19th and Ocean City’s James Burke was 20th.
Pole vault, high jump,
shot put, discus
Red Raider Nick Layton was sixth in the pole vault with a height of 11’. Deptford’s Rodriguez won at 13’6”. Mainland’s Javier Torres Balbin set a personal record of 10’6”, good for ninth place.
Ocean City’s 4×100 relay team of Elijah Cochran, Roy Salugta, Gianluca Salugta and Oves was seventh in the 4×100 relay with a time of 46.64 seconds. Deptford’s relay team won in 43.33 seconds.
Red Raider Nasir Kelly was eighth in the high jump, learning the bar at 5’6”, Givens was a 15th at 5’4” and Over 17th at 5’4”. Highland’s Whitaker won by learning 6’4”.
Jamison finished ninth in the shot put with a throw of 43’2”, a personal record. Teammate Noah Murrray (39’5”) and Mike Rhodes (38’5”) were 14th and 17th. Mustang Chris Campbell was 12th with a throw of 40’8”. Campbell and Jamison set PRs in the event.
Ocean City’s Colin Dice was 16th in the discus with a throw of 100’4” and Mainland’s Sinclair was 18th at 83’9”. Mustangs Robert Sheeler and Billy Weldon were 21st and 22nd.
100 meters
Mainland’s Cody Pierce was 11th (11:3 seconds) and Ocean City’s Cochran was 23rd (11.84 seconds) in the 100-meter dash. Deptford’s John Adams won the event in 10.89 seconds.
Mustangs Jayden Bergman (11.89) and Michael Ordille (12.13) were 28th and 34th and Red Raider Oves (12.18) was 34th.
O.C. fourth as a team
As a team, Ocean City finished fourth overall with 52 points. Deptford was first with 99 and Highland and Toms River South tied for second with 82 points. Mainland was 11th with 18 points.
