Caught in Somers Point, suspect turned over to Ocean City police as well
SEA ISLE CITY — A Somers Point man on an E-bike was charged with eluding a Sea Isle City police officer after he allegedly committed traffic violations and fled July 28.
According to Sea Isle City Police Chief Anthony J. Garreffi Jr., Alan Rosie, 21, was charged with eluding a law enforcement officer, second degree, and numerous Title 39 motor vehicle violations.
The chief alleged that about 2:07 p.m., on John F. Kennedy Boulevard and Central Avenue, Sea Isle Patrolman Rutter of the Patrol Division attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop on an E-bike after observing the operator commit numerous motor vehicle violations in that area. Police allege Rosie failed to come to a stop and instead disregarded the officer’s emergency lights and fled the area.
A follow-up investigation was initiated by the Patrol Division and the Sea Isle City Police Department Detective Bureau. Through various investigative means and inter-departmental cooperation, police assert the E-bike operator was identified as Rosie.
On July 31, a warrant was issued for Rosie’s arrest after a finding of probable cause, the chief said.
With the assistance of the Somers Point Police Department, Rosie was taken into custody at his residence without incident and turned over to the Sea Isle City Police Department to be processed on his warrant.
Rosie was then turned over to the Ocean City Police Department, which had outstanding charges on Rosie for alleged similar incidents.
Rosie was lodged in the Cape May County Jail in accordance with Attorney General guidelines.
The Sea Isle City Police Department cited the efforts of its Patrol and Detective Bureau for their collaboration and investigative efforts during this case.
