SEA ISLE CITY — Two Sea Isle City police officers suffered injuries during the arrest of two Pennsylvania men following a fight July 24 at the Sea Isle Inn/Kix-McNutley’s.
One of the officers had to be transported to a hospital for treatment. The men have been charged with aggravated assault on law enforcement officers.
According to authorities, Cape May County Communications received a 911 call at about 11:17 p.m. reporting a fight in progress at the entertainment complex.
According to a news release, officers with the Sea Isle City Police Department responded to the area, where they learned that Patrick McStravog, 31, of Audubon, was involved in a physical altercation with other patrons of the business inside the establishment that resulted in him suffering minor injuries.
Based on initial reports, McStravog was determined to be the primary aggressor and instigated the fight, according to authorities. Sea Isle City EMS arrived on scene and attempted to tend to McStravog’s injuries.
As he was escorted to an ambulance, a family member of McStravog’s, Robert McMonagle, 60, of Norristown, became irate and attempted to push past a uniformed officer to engage the subjects who were initially involved in the fight with McStravog, according to the release.
In trying to push past the officer, McMonagle struck him in the chest and was subsequently placed under arrest. During that ensuing struggle, McMonagle resisted arrest and physical force was used to safely take him into custody, authorities stated.
During McMonagle’s resistance, McStravog left the care of the EMS personnel and aggressively approached the arrest location, according to authorities. Before he could be stopped, McStravog assaulted an officer who was attempting to take McMonagle into custody.
McStravog was placed under arrest, during which he also resisted officers’ control, resulting in physical force being used to take him into custody.
McStravog was further charged with obstruction, resisting arrest and simple assault.
McMonagle was further charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
They were lodged in the Cape May County Jail for processing.
