Key things to know about the Ocean City Yacht Club

– Founded in 1901 as a sailing and social club with “… the purpose of encouraging and promoting amateur yachting on Great Egg Harbor Bay and its tributaries.” Motorboats were included after 1912.

– Oldest continuously-operating yacht club in Cape May County (1901). There were three different locations in Ocean City early on, but the club has been at the present Bay and Battersea address since 1912.

– Sailing program includes junior and adult activities featuring the following classes of boats: optimus Prams, Sunfish, Lasers, Club 420s, Lightnings, J22s, and various offshore sailboats.

– Junior sailing program (8 years and older) is administered by fully accredited U.S. Sailing instructors and features intraclub competition with other area yacht clubs.

– Youth program (5-10 years) to educate about marine environment, fishing, boating lore and fundamentals.

– Motorboat activities include fishing, powerboat cruising, and navigation programs. 

– Established a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation which benefits the local community through grants supporting junior sailing excellence and competition, maritime charitable and educational organizations, as well as maritime-related education and youth sailing scholarships.

– Social activities include special events in celebration of the 125th anniversary, themed dinner and dancing nights, bridge, book club, quiz, pickleball, and Mah-jong. 

– Casual waterfront indoor and outdoor dining, and an excellent venue for private party events.

– Main boating season runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day, but the club has year-round activities including golf, sporting clays, holiday parties, and adult and family socials.
