Red Raider laxers hand Holy Spirit its first loss

OCEAN CITY – The Ocean City High School boys lacrosse team remains atop the American Conference in the Cape-Atlantic League with a 7-4 record after defeating Holy Spirit, 17-4, on May 11.

Holy Spirit, which leads the National Conference, came into the game undefeated.

The four losses the Red Raiders have so far include two from last week, against Rumson-Fair Haven  and Don Bosco Prep. All four came against non-conference opponents.

In the conference, the Red Raiders are 5-0.

Against Holy Spirit, freshman Pat Grimley led his team with 6 goals and 2 assists.

Jake Schneider added 3 goals and 7 assists to be the point leader for the afternoon with 10. Brady Rauner had 3 goals and 2 assists, Dylan Dwyer and Nick Volpe each had 2 goals, Jack Davis had a goal and an assist and Jake Inserra recorded one assist.

Gavin Jackson had 5 saves in goal and split time with Ryan Kroeger, who had three saves.

Against undefeated Don Bosco Prep (9-0) on Saturday, the team trailed 11-0 heading into the final period when Grimley scored twice and Rauner added the other goal. Schneider was credited with 1 asset.

Against unbeaten Rumson-Fair Haven (11-0), Dwyer and Schneider had the only Ocean City goals in the 12-2 loss.

On Monday, the Red Raiders were hosting another tough team, St. Augustine Prep. They travel to Monroe Township High School today (Wednesday) and are at Egg Harbor Township at 4 p.m. Friday.
