OCHS girls track wins South Jersey titles in 4×800, 800, 1600 and 3200

Mainland’s Gianna Shea triumphs in pole vault

FRANKLINVILLE – The Red Raider girls track and field team walked away with multiple medals at the South Jersey Group III sectionals over the weekend at Delsea Regional High School.

Ocean City junior Carly Godfrey won the 800 meters and the 1600 meters at the South Jersey Group III sections.

Godfrey won the 800 in 2:13.19. Mainland senior Emma Preissman was fourth in 2:17.51.

Godfrey was first in the 1600 in 5:10.83 with sophomore teammate Riley Tolson right behind in 5:10.97 and fellow Red Raider junior Lillian Flora fourth in 5:22.13. 

Preissman was third in the race in 5:17.01.

Ocean City High School’s girls and boys 4×800 relay teams won their events at the South Jersey Group III sectional meet over the weekend at Delsea Regional High School. The girls team, above, included Lillian Flora, Riley Tolson, Peighton Clemens and Carly Godfrey.

Tolson won the 3200 meters in 10:58.42, 18 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Flora was third in 11:28.87 and Ocean City senior Gabrielle Henry was sixth in 11:58.94. Mainland sophomore Adrian Sykes was seventh in 12:04.61.

The Ocean City girls 4×800 teams of Flora, Tolson, Peighton Clemens and Godfrey won in 9:20.01, almost 15 seconds ahead of second-lace Moorestown. Mainland’s relay was seventh in 10:26.14.

Mainland junior Gianna Shea won the pole vault. The junior cleared 10’6”, a new Mainland record.

Teammate Allie Thomas, a junior, finished second in the high jump at 5’. Winslow’s Ma’Syiah Brawner won at 5’4”. Ocean City senior Callie Duff was fourth at 4’10” and Mainland’s Adrianna Kesic, a sophomore, was 10th at 4’8”.

Mainland senior Camryn DeMorat was third in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.72 seconds. Winslow’s Jasmine Jackson won in 13.39 seconds. Mustang junior Veronika Andreev was sixth in 15.02 and fellow Mustang Alaya Steinberg, a sophomore, was eighth in 15.73.

DeMorat also finished third in the long jump, leaping 18’2.26”. Shea was fifth at 17’8.5”. Ocean City’s Annabella Casemento, a sophomore, was 10th at 15’7.5”.

Andreev finished third in the triple jump, going 35’ and Thomas was fifth at 33’9.5”. Ocean City’s Duff was eight at 32.1.5”. Brawner won with a distance of 40’5.5”.

Steinberg was fifth in the 400 meter hurdles in 1:08.29. Jackson won in 1:01.79 and Ocean City’s Gianna Ganiel was eighth in 1:11.18, and Mainland freshman Maya Thomas was ninth in 1:11.26.

Andreev was fifth in the 100 meters in 12.29 seconds. Winslow senior Olivia Okaro won in 11.93 seconds. Okaro won the preliminaries in 12.23 seconds with Andreev just 1/100th of a second behind, but picked up the pace in the finals.

Raider junior Ella Miller was fifth in the 200 meters in 24.64 seconds. Winslow sophomore Jasmine Jackson won in 24.33 seconds.

Winslow won the 4×100 relay in 47.87 seconds with Mainland second in 48.60 and Ocean City third in 48.74.

Ocean City was second in the 4×400 in 4:03.09 behind Winslow, which won in 3:52.65.

Mainland junior Teagan O’Brien was seventh in the javelin with a throw of 101’1”. Lacey’s Brooklynn Bell won at 115’1”.

Winslow Township won the meet with 193 points. Ocean City was second with 79 and Mainland third with 69.
