Painting Retreat
set for May 19-22
CAPE MAY POINT — The Cape May Point Arts & Science Center has scheduled a four-day Plein Air Landscape Painting Retreat for May 19-22.
Led by landscape artist Joseph Sweeney, the immersive outdoor painting experience invites artists to capture the natural beauty of Cape May’s coastal environment.
Workshops from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily will explore some of the region’s most iconic locations. Participants will enjoy sweeping seaside vistas while developing their skills in painting directly from life.
The course is designed for artists working in oil, acrylic and pastel, although those experienced in watercolors are also welcome. Instruction will focus on painting efficiently outdoors, with guidance on selecting strong compositions, understanding weather and light conditions and organizing a practical plein air palette.
The program will include demonstrations and lectures covering painting surfaces, materials, mediums, compositional drawing and color studies.

Memorial Day

SEAVILLE — A Memorial Day Service is scheduled for 10 a.m. May 25 at Sergeant William R. Godfrey Memorial Park and hosted by James Joyce, Osprey Point resident and U.S. Army veteran.
The guest speaker will be Mike McHale, Army veteran and a former mayor of Sea Isle City.
Vocalist Jim Offner will lead residents and guests in the singing of the national anthem and patriotic songs.
A flag honoring and memorializing Joseph Georgio, Army veteran and Osprey Point resident, will be presented to the community.
Upper Township Boy Scout Troop 79 will present the Color Guard. Members of American Legion Post 239 of Tuckahoe will be present and Commander Bill Archer will place a wreath honoring fallen veterans followed by the sounding of Taps.
In case of inclement weather, the service will be held in the Osprey Point Clubhouse. The park is located at Osprey Point, 1731 Route 9 in Seaville.

Linda Gentille & The Jersey Shore Pops has announced the lineup for the 2026 concert season.
They will open the season with a special tribute to America’s 250th anniversary celebration at 7 p.m. July 25 at Lower Cape May Regional High School.
“Stars & Stripes Forever” will feature the amazing comedy piano entertainer as Gentille dazzles and conducts from the piano. The show will be a tribute to the great American composers such as Gershwin, Berlin, Porter and Stephen Foster.
Gentille performs around the world on luxury cruise ships and on land. Her show includes artistry, comedy and memory tricks.
“Judy & Liza” is a tribute show at the Gateway Playhouse in Somers Point. Shows are set for 2 and 6 p.m. Oct. 24. Tickets are $40 and can be ordered (609) 653-0553.

CAPE MAY POINT — The Cape May Point Arts & Science Center has scheduled its 3rd annual Marine Science Symposium for May 29-31.

OCEAN CITY – Ocean City Yacht Club is celebrating its historic 125th anniversary this year. The club was incorporated in 1901 “for the purpose of encouraging and promoting amateur yachting on Great Egg Harbor Bay and its tributaries.”
The club’s official “Opening Day” of summer 2026 is May 23. The summer-long calendar includes social and boating activities and special events that are planned for members of all ages. OCEAN CITY — St. John Lutheran Church, Journey Hospice, and The Shores — a United Methodist Communities (UMC) community — are partnering to offer a monthly Grief Support Group for adults who are navigating the difficult journey of loss.
The group provides a safe, welcoming and confidential space where individuals can come together to share their experiences, listen, and support one another. Whether someone has recently experienced a loss or is still processing grief from years past, all are welcome.
Meetings will be held in person on the second Wednesday of every month from 11 a.m. to noon at St. John Lutheran Church, 1001 Central Ave.
“Grief is a deeply personal experience, but it doesn’t have to be experienced alone,” group coordinators Beth Gebhart and Michele Musto said. “This group is about honoring each person’s journey and finding hope in shared understanding.”

Crisis Intervention
Families who are experiencing serious difficulties in managing the behavior of children 10 to 17 years old for whom they are responsible can seek assistance through the Atlantic County Juvenile/Family Crisis Intervention Unit (FCIU).
FCIU is a legally mandated program that is available 24 hours a day to intercede in family conflicts and help strengthen the family unit. Its services include short-term crisis stabilization, family assessment, case management, treatment planning and referrals to appropriate community-based services.
FCIU is available to meet in-person by appointment with youth and their families from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at 101 Shore Road in Northfield. Appointments can also be conducted by phone or as a virtual meeting to help de-escalate and resolve family conflicts.

for depression
Online screening for depression and postpartum depression is available at mhaac.info/screening.
The confidential screening involves 10 questions related to topics such as sleep habits, appetite, concentration and level of energy. Resources and recommendations are offered at the end of the survey.
