OCEAN CITY – Ocean City first responders raced to the scene a few blocks south of Roosevelt Boulevard this morning after a private contractor was accidentally electrocuted and a second worker injured when he went to help.
The first responders then rushed the two victims to the Ocean City Municipal Airport, where they were picked up by helicopter and flown to a trauma center.
Ocean Chief Fire Chief Bernard F. Walker said the city’s Department of Fire & Rescue Services responded just before 9 a.m. Monday, April 27, to 100 Somerset Lane, which is east of Bay Avenue, “for an advanced life support emergency medical incident involving a possible traumatic injury.”
“The call was initiated following a report of a possible electrocution and fall from an elevated position,” the chief wrote in a press release issued Monday.
“According to initial reports, private contractors at the residence contacted electrical supply lines with a metal ladder while moving the ladder on the exterior of the building,” Walker wrote. “One of the individuals was initially reportedly electrocuted while a second individual on scene was also injured after reportedly making contact with the ladder in an attempt to assist the first individual.”
The chief said fire department personnel provided on-scene rapid trauma assessment and initial treatment. AtlantiCare paramedics also responded and administered advanced life support care.
The two patients were treated and transported by helicopter from the airport to a Level I Trauma Center at the Jefferson Burn Center, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. The condition of the patients was not immediately available.
