34th St. road-raising work switches sides

OCEAN CITY – Work is continuing on Roosevelt Boulevard with the completion last week of the first stage of elevating the roadway from the easterly bridge approach to Bay Avenue.

The reconstructed portion had base and intermediate asphalt courses in place by March 12. Upon completion of the asphalt work, traffic was shifted from the current area south of the roadway centerline and onto the newly paved section of the roadway north of the centerline so that road work can continue on the south side.

The single eastbound and westbound lane configuration will continue but was shifted to the northerly side of the roadway.

This new traffic configuration will remain in place for about five weeks as the contractor begins the reconstruction of the existing eastbound lane and shoulder areas.

Motorists are urged to proceed slowly through the work area and to use caution approaching the Bay Avenue intersection since the lane shift will offset vehicles relative to the normal alignment of traffic.

Construction crews finished paving the newly-raised northern side of Roosevelt Boulevard last week, at top, and moved traffic there to begin work on the southern side, above.
