OCEAN CITY – The massive building at the corner of Eighth Street and Haven Avenue was finally demolished Thursday after sitting mostly vacant for more than a decade.
What last housed a mechanic’s garage and dry cleaner, and most recently a laundromat, was taken apart Thursday, Aug. 28, but not without complications.
The three-story structure, with extensive iron reinforcements, came down after demolition crews brought in larger equipment, but when it finally collapsed it took out power lines to nearby transformers, cutting electricity flow to the neighborhood and nearby Acme. Police were on the scene, as were Atlantic City Electric crews, who rerouted power.
