Working fire at Ocean City home

OCEAN CITY – Ocean City firefighters put out a blaze at a home at 15 Tobago Lane late night Aug. 27. No one was injured.

A 911 call came in at 11:36 p.m. and crews from the Department of Fire & Rescue Services and Police Department responded, reporting heavy smoke and fire at the rear of the building, according to Fire Chief Bernard F. Walker.

The on-site incident commander declared it a working fire, increasing the alarm to include a full department recall of off-duty members and mutual aid units.

Walker said fire crews did a search of the building and contained the fire to the structure, getting it extinguished and officially under control at 12:20 a.m. Aug. 28.

No one was occupying the building at the time of the fire, according to Walker, who reported no injuries to civilians or emergency responders.

The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation by the Ocean City Fire Department Investigation Unit and the Cape May County Fire Marshal Office. Mutual aid assistance was provided by Marmora Volunteer Fire Company, Margate City Fire Department and Upper Township Rescue.
