OCEAN CITY – The Ocean City Beach Patrol celebrated the 50th anniversary of its Hall of Fame at the reunion party. The annual get-together was held on Aug. 9 in the Ocean City Historical Museum’s assembly room.
Since 1975, a total of 123 lifeguards have been inducted including three added this summer.
The newest members are Ocean City Sentinel Editor David Nahan (writing articles and taking picture of Ocean City lifeguards since 1997), John Turner (rookie 1976), and Maggie Wallace (rookie 2017).
Plaques were presented by Jack Brooks, Vince Hink, New Jersey Assemblyman Antwan McClellan, and Cape May County Commissioner Bobby Barr.
OCBP Chief Erich Becker presented 35 Legacy Awards to lifeguards who had been on the patrol for 25 years.
The members of the Ocean City Beach Patrol are proud of their history and record of accomplishments, and the annual reunion gives everyone an opportunity to celebrate the 127-year-old tradition of excellence in the lifesaving profession.
