OCEAN CITY – Ocean City approved an amendment for fees for city facilities, primarily to be more specific about the costs for playing pickleball, an increasingly popular sport.
City Solicitor Dorothy McCrosson said time frames for pickleball prompted the change, because it was being treated like tennis even though it is not played the same way.
The ordinance also sets fees for other uses.
For pickleball, the cost for an annual play pass will be $60, with a 10-play pass at $40, a weekly pass at $15 and a daily pass at $5.
Groups of four would pay $10 for two hours after 1 p.m. and a family of four would pay the same thing for a maximum of two hours after 3 p.m.
Tennis at the city courts at Fifth, 18th and 34th streets would cost $8 per hour.
The fee for outdoor playing fields, up to four hours, would be $50 Monday through Friday, and $75 on weekends and holidays. Carey Stadium would cost $100 per hour, $50 per hour for the practice field, press box, lights or concession stand.
