Report of person jumping from Rt. 52 bridge prompts intense search

OCEAN CITY – Last week, Ocean City police responded to reports of a person who feared someone jumping from the Route 52 causeway bridge, prompting an intense search.

According to the Ocean City Police Department, at 6:43 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, police officers responded to Route 52 after several witnesses reported a male subject appeared to be jumping from the bridge.  Several officers arrived, but the subject was initially not located.  Due to the details of the incident provided by both witnesses, an immediate and intense search was launched to locate the subject.  

In addition to the police department’s drones, assets were requested from the Coast Guard and New Jersey State Police to assist in the search.  After an expedited investigation involving detectives, the subject was identified and located at a residence in Somers Point.  The subject was subsequently transported to Cooper Cape Regional Medical Center for evaluation.
